Connecting Entrance to a freshly installed MySQL server
When you first run Entrance, your window will look like this:
Click the “Connect” button . When one of the the connection icons changes to green, it means you have connected. To see what settings you are using, you can Right-Click on a connection icon (Control-click on a Mac), which will bring up its popup menu.
Before you put sensitive material into a MySQL database you will want to change the root password. There are details about this on the MySQL web site, http://www.mysql.com/.
Remember that when you change a password from a MySQL script, you must change the password setting for any connections that use that password in Entrance, too. The safest practice is to write new passwords down and keep them for a few days, until you are sure that everything is working properly.
Connecting to an existing server
Select Database | Add Host Server from the Database menu. You will see the connection properties dialog:
Fill in the settings you want, then click the “Test” button to see if they work. Click OK . These settings will be saved between sessions, so you only have to do this once. Now try connecting. Make sure the new connection is selected, then click the “Connect” tool.
You can specify a port as part of the Host name, for example, "localhost:1000" .
WARNING: If you click “Remember password” your password will be saved between sessions as clear text in a system file (The file is entrance.tree in the system directory)
Adding databases and setting the default database
You can right click on nodes in the Entrance explorer tree to bring up their popup menus. This is a way to add databases to the explorer tree, for example.
You can also set the default database used for making a connection by right clicking on a database node, and then selecting "Use by default'. (Try changing the default database and watch the message that appears in the lower right hand side of the Entrance window to see how this works)
